The main theme of our collaboration is ‘belonging’ seen as one of the primary issues to be considered with regards to the concept of a ‘new speaker’.
All three collaborators have collected databases of interactions (audio recordings) that will be used as the basis for this paper. My data comes from recordings of Japanese immigrants in Amsterdam and Limburg, and their families.

27.10-31.10:

  •
Establishing theoretical framework of ‘belonging’ as a sociolinguistic concept
  • Linking the concept of (un)belonging to the concept of a ‘new speaker’ in Europe
  • Collaborative data sessions – quantitative analysis
03.11-06.11

  • Collaborative data sessions – qualitative analysis

  • Drafting of the analysis part of the paper
